What is Swell?

Swell Boutique shop carries exclusive and limited edition items and has a mobile ordering app to help customers who do not have time to find and purchase unique items from their phones without having to go in person.

What makes Swell unique?

A key feature of this product is its user base for local shoppers and its notifications for exclusive drops. A key feature in this project was the member notification to make it easy for the user to find unique items without having to go to the store.

User Research Summary

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs.

A primary user group identified through research was working adults who don’t have time to shop and look for unique gifts/home goods.

This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Swell Boutique customers, but research also revealed that time was not the only factor limiting users from shopping at boutiques. Other user problems included obligations, interests, or challenges that make it difficult to find unique items or go to boutique stores in-person or technical problems, no options for online store and difficult search and check-out process.

Other user problems included obligations, interests, or challenges that make it difficult to find unique items or go to boutique stores in-person or technical problems, no options for online store and difficult search and check-out process.

This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Local Fresh users, but research also revealed that location was not the only factor limiting users from accessing fresh produce in their areas. Other user problems vary as one person’s food access and availability may be different from their neighbor’s, depending on income and transportation. These challenges make it difficult for everyone to find healthy options locally without having to travel far to access healthy food.
